Are you trade-only timber merchants, or can the public buy from you?

We supply both trade, wholesale and the general public. Whether you’re a builder, landscaper, fencing contractor or a homeowner tackling a weekend project, you can buy from us online or in person at any of our timber yards. 

Where are your timber yards located?

We have three timber yards: Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire (our head office), Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, and Chesham in Buckinghamshire. Each yard carries a full range of stock, and you’re welcome to visit, browse and load up. See our branch selector for addresses, directions and opening hours.

Can I visit your timber yard to see the timber before I buy?

Absolutely, we’d encourage it. Unlike buying timber sight-unseen, visiting one of our yards means you can check the quality, straightness and finish for yourself, and our team can help you pick through the stock. No appointment needed during opening hours.

What does a timber merchant actually stock?

As independent timber merchants, we carry far more than just sawn timber. Our range includes fence panels and fencing supplies, closeboard fencing materials, decking, sleepers, cladding, sheds and garden buildings, gates, sawn and treated timber, and landscaping materials. If you can’t see what you need, ask; we can often source it.

Do you deliver timber, and how far?

Yes. We deliver from all three of our timber yards, covering within 40 miles of our branches. We can deliver nationwide for wholesale orders and selected products. Delivery costs are shown at checkout.

Is your timber pressure-treated?

Much of our outdoor range: fencing, decking, sleepers and landscaping timber is pressure treated for protection against rot and insect attack. Product pages state the treatment used and expected lifespan. If you’re unsure whether you need treated or untreated timber for your project, our team can advise.

Is your timber responsibly sourced?

Yes, we source our timber from responsibly managed forests. You can read more about our certifications here. 

How long has Walford Timber been trading?

We’ve been trading as timber merchants since 1945. Over 80 years and three generations later, we’re still independently run, which means expert, honest advice and timber quality we personally stand behind, from people who’ve spent their lives in the trade

Do you offer advice on which timber to use for my project?

Yes, and it’s one of the main reasons people choose an independent timber merchant over a national chain. Whether it’s choosing between fence panel styles, working out decking quantities, or picking the right grade of timber for a structural job, call us or visit one of our yards and we’ll talk it through, no jargon. 

Can I order online and collect from my nearest yard?

Yes, order through each branch website and choose collect. 

Do you supply timber for large or commercial projects?

Yes. We regularly supply contractors, landscapers, farms and estates with bulk wholesale timber orders. For large quantities or ongoing projects, contact us today and speak to our dedicated bulk order specialist.
