Concrete Fence Post Installation In The Forest Of Dean
3rd June 2026
When a Forest of Dean homeowner needed to replace the fencing along a challenging boundary, they turned to the Walford Timber Installer Network for trusted, local recommendations.
Three of our network contractors visited to review the project, each arriving promptly at the agreed time. All three talked the work through in detail and impressed the client with their knowledge, making the final choice genuinely difficult. In the end, the homeowner felt they could work best with Acorn Services.
Before and After
The Site
The site was far from straightforward. Running adjacent to a neighbouring farmer’s field, the ground sloped along the entire fence line, meaning every panel had to be individually stepped to follow the contours. The client had a clear vision for the finished result, paying close attention to the height of the capping rail in relation to the concrete post tops. Andrew and his two-man team worked meticulously to get every step and every level just right.
There were further obstacles to overcome along the way. Significant amounts of concrete surrounded the existing fence posts and had to be carefully broken out and removed. An electrical cable and a water pipe also ran alongside the fence line, and the team worked around them with care to avoid any damage. When a few panels arrived with cracked timber, Andrew resolved the issue directly with Walford Timber, ensuring the finished fence met the expected standard.
Throughout the project, Acorn Services respected the property and worked hard to deliver a result the homeowner is delighted with.
Good to Know
The client chose a concrete post system with 300mm gravel boards for longevity and robustness, an ideal specification given the fence’s position alongside the farmer’s field. Concrete posts and gravel boards offer a long-lasting, low-maintenance solution that withstands exposure and agricultural use, keeping the timber panels clear of ground moisture and helping protect the fence for years to come.
All products were supplied through Walford Timber, and our network installers are covered by our product guarantee.
The Finished Installation
In the Customer’s Words
“We are really pleased with the finished project. Andrew and his lads worked extremely hard to get everything just right, respected our property throughout, and we would have no hesitation in recommending them to friends and family. We also found the case studies really useful when deciding on our fencing — they give a good idea of what the installers can achieve. Thank you, Walford, and thank you, Acorn Services.”
