We’re looking for someone with a proven track record in providing exceptional customer service, coupled with the ability to identify and close sales opportunities. In this role, you will be responsible for serving both trade and retail customers daily in the branch on our trade counter. Enquiries and sales will be taken over the phone and via email. On top of this, you will identify new clients and business opportunities and increase trade with our existing client base. You will liaise directly with customers and suppliers to calculate material requirements, submit, and convert quotations, winning business to ensure the company can grow its share of the market and build on its outstanding reputation.
This is a full-time permanent position. Our opening hours are 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday and 8am – 12pm Saturdays. Saturdays are rota based so you would not be expected to work every Saturday.
As you will be responsible for serving customers, you’ll have a polite and professional manner. You’ll be able to follow set procedures and office systems with accuracy and you will be competent with the handling of customer payments.
Ideally, you would have previous sales experience, it would be desirable for this to have been within a builders or timber merchant though this is not essential. Our quotations, invoices and sales orders are all computerised so familiarity with a keyboard and Microsoft Windows-based software is important.
Many of our products are manufactured or sawn to order to non-standard sizes and individual designs so a good grasp of measurements and basic calculations would be helpful, though full training will be given.

Our Walford site is a busy and active worksite serving both the local area and further afield with our wholesale operation. We are offering a highly competitive salary, as well as a company pension, and you’ll have 22 days of annual leave plus the statutory bank holidays. Some of these days (usually 6 or 7) must be kept back for our annual Christmas shutdown.
