Sales Advisor – Walford Timber Ltd, Ross-on-Wye
Walford Timber has nearly 80 years of heritage, innovation and continuous growth and is a specialist manufacturer and supplier of high-quality and sustainable fencing and outdoor timber products. We supply installers, tradespeople, stockists, property owners and managers, as well as the general public.
About the job:
Based at our sales office / trade counter in Ross-on-Wye we’re looking for someone with a love of selling and for providing exceptional customer service.
Working in a small team you will be responsible for serving both trade and DIY customers daily on our trade counter, over the phone, and via email. On top of this you will identify new clients and business opportunities and increase trade with our existing client base.
You will liaise with customers, advise on the best solutions, calculate material quantities, submit and convert quotations, and help us to grow our share of the market and build on our reputation.
Full-time or part-time hours considered. Full time hours are generally 40 hours per week, part time to be discussed depending on your circumstances. Current opening hours are 8am-5pm Monday to Friday.
About you:
As you will be responsible for serving customers, you’ll have a polite, professional and positive manner. You will love dealing with people, whether that’s DIY’ers, tradespeople or other commercial users, and you’ll be able to adapt your approach to each customer. You will take satisfaction from finding solutions for each project or enquiry, and enjoy building long-lasting relationships with repeat customers.
You will be sincere and conscientious in your approach, and you’ll be able to follow set procedures and office systems with accuracy, including the handling of customer payments.
We use electronic Point of Sale software, as well as CRM and inventory tools so familiarity with a keyboard and Microsoft Windows based applications are essential.
Ideally you will have previous sales experience, and it would be desirable for this to have been within a builders or timber merchant, or a related trade, although this is not essential.
As well as selling a wide range of standard fencing and outdoor timber products, we also produce made-to-order products and non-standard sizes to individual requirements so a good grasp of measurements and basic calculations is important, although full product training will be given

Our products are known for their quality and durability, and our team are known for their in-depth product knowledge and friendly, efficient approach. Our products are sold both locally and nationally. We have two further sales outlets in Gloucestershire and Buckinghamshire to cater for those regions. The head office is located at the Ross-on-Wye site as well as the manufacturing and processing facilities. Wholesale timber supplies are also dispatched from this site, as well as having a shop to fulfil local requirements.
We are offering a competitive salary, company pension scheme (for those that qualify) and 30 days annual leave including the statutory bank holidays (pro-rated for part-time roles.) Some of these days (usually 6 or 7) must be kept back for our annual Christmas shutdown.
